Introduction

This document will describe how you can set up Outlook Express 6 to receive and send mail using your Edge Web Hosting account.

What you will need
To set up Outlook Express you will need some information.
  • Outlook Express 6
  • Your domain name (i.e. domain.com)
  • The email address assigned to you
  • The password assigned to you

You should be able to get this information from the person in charge of your website, or if you are the person in charge of the website and are unsure of any of the information, please contact support (support@edgewebhosting.net or 410-363-4626).

Adding a new account in Outlook Express 6
1. To add a new account in Outlook Express, from the menu at the top of the window, select "Tools" and then "Accounts...".
Tools Account
2. In the "Internet Account" windows, click "Add" and select "Mail..." from the menu that will pop up to the right of the button. This will start the wizard to add a new account.
Add Account
3. For "Your Name" put in the name you would like to be displayed next to the emails that you send. Usually this should be your full name (i.e. "John Doe"), but in some cases it may be something like "Accounting" or "Sales".
Enter Your name
4. Click "Next".
5. For the next step, put in the email address that you will be using for this account (i.e. john.doe@domain.com).
Email Address
6. Click "Next".
7. For the "E-mail Server Names" window, select "POP3" from the list of protocols under "My Server is a" drop down menu. For the "Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server:" text box, you can use "webmail.edgewebhosting.net" or if your DNS is already pointing to our servers, you can use "mail.domain.com" where "domain.com" is replaced by the domain name for your website. If you are unsure about the DNS settings for your site, use "webmail.edgewebhosting.net". The same value for the Incoming mail server should be used for the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:" text box.
Enter the server names
8. Click "Next".
9. Now you will need to enter your login information. For "Account Name" enter your full email address (i.e. john.doe@domain.com not just "john.doe"). For password enter the password that was assigned to you. Leave the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" box unchecked.
Enter Username and Password
10. Click "Next".
11. Click "Finish". This will close the wizard, and the "Internet Accounts" window should be on the screen.
12. Select the account that you just created (it should be named "webmail.edgewebhosting.net" or "mail.domain.com"), and click the "Properties" button. A window will pop up with the properties for the account.
Account Properties
13. Click on the "Servers" tab. Towards the bottom of the window, you should see an area labeled "Outgoing Mail Server". In that area, check the box next to "My server required authentication".
Enable SMTP authentication
14. Click "OK". This will close the properties window and the "Internet Accounts" window should be on the screen.
15. Click "Close" to close the "Internet Accounts" window.
Your Outlook Express has now been configured to use the Edge Web Hosting servers.
Note: Some Internet Service Providers (ISPs) do not allow use of SMTP servers outside of their network. In this case, you will have to contact your ISP to see what the settings are for your outgoing SMTP server.
